Medium garnet, the 2000 Château de Beaucastel Hommage à Jaques Perrin is a sexy beast. Although there are clear traces of brettanomyces, they fade after two hours in the decanter. The nose is loaded with dried provence herbs, dried black cherries and black plums, dried figs, iodine, game, forrest floor, leather and hints of black truffle. Full bodied, very concentrated and with ripe but slightly chalky tannins, this Châteauneuf-Powerhouse closes with a long finish. Not quite at the heights of 1990 or 1998, but still a hedonistic treat. Drink now until 2030 — 4 years ago

See previous notes. My last bottle - purchased at the winery on Kangaroo Island. 100% Cabernet Franc. Herbs , Tea leaves, Charcoal, Black, fruits, a touch of caramel oak. Quite a full bodied opulent wine showing those black fruits. A product of the warm 2008 vintage in South Australia. A classy wine balancing the ripe fruit with the right amount of oak treatment. Very polished as you would expect from a $150 wine. Shows Jaques Lurton’s (Cheval Blanc) experience with the Cabernet Franc grape. — 4 years ago

Stunning. Folks debated if this was better than the 2006 Clos St. Jaques from Bruno Clair. For me it was a toss. This one was perhaps more earthy and less cherry notes driven - more mushroom 🍄 and forest 🌳 floor. Really wine does not get much better then this! — 9 years ago
