Lemon and orange blossom. Ginger and diesel. Once the diesel character blows off the white spice really shines. Honestly, I prefer the Trocken, but the Spatlede is probably what most people are looking for. — a day ago

🏅 Rating 91/100 (4,1⭐)
Yellow gold colour. Opulent wine rich with yellow ripe fruits, melone and honey. It has the power of bordering Meursault and the backbone acidity structure of Puligny. Lower mid-slope vineyard with a layer of clay in the topsoil makes probably the most intense wines among Puligny 1er Crus. Generous wine which has already reached its maturity plateau. Sauzet own 0.7 ha parcel with 60 years old vines.

My first GG purchase - and what a bargain at $38. Fuller bodied and ripe Riesling that managed to be juicy, dry, and elegant. A hint of oak adds a nice creaminess to the mid palate, while the finish features sizzling clean acidity.
More info: Rosengarten is a 3.5 ha former monopole that is enclosed by historic stone walls and castle ruins which offer protection from wind and cool air (Spreitzer owns 2.5 ha). The soil is shell limestone rich with calcerous loam. — 5 days ago
2012 vintage. Tiny 1 ha vineyard previously owned by Gérard Depardieu and Bernard Magrez, and now by a consortium of wine lovers. 100% cabernet sauvignon. A beautiful confidential cult wine that is more about almost Burgundian-like finesse than power. Hard to find, but well worth seeking out. — 18 days ago
From a very small Margaret River winery, 2.3 ha. 68 Savagnin, 24 Viognier, 5 Gewurztraminer, 3 Sauvignon blanc. Interesting. — 12 days ago
Classic dry Riesling sourced from a minuscule plot (.8 ha) within an iconic vineyard. Serious weight on the palate with layers of green apple, honeyed apricots, and crushed stone. So much complexity and life in this $30 bottle. Certified biodynamic. — 12 days ago
Wow a surprise. Dark purple color and dark fruits and savory notes resembling a northern Rhone. Still lively texture and long finish. Yum. Storied vineyard. #2687 of 3000 made. 21 percent Voignier! Back barcode label says drink 2009-2010, ha, how wrong! AA14. Too bad only bottle! — 24 days ago
2018 vintage. Etalon Rouge is a tiny 1,46 hectares vineyard (1,26 ha red with 100% Cabernet sauvignon and 0,20 ha white with 100% Sauvignon blanc) situated in the Blaye appellation, but sold as Bordeaux AOC. One of the best kept secrets in Bordeaux, the estate was owned by Gérard Depardieu and Bernard Magrez, followed by painter Thierry Bisch, and today by a group of 10 wine lovers worldwide. Maître de chai these days is Clarissa Schaefer, who is also a very talented painter. With her husband Leslie she owns the wine bar/shop La Petite Cave in Blaye, a must-visit if you are in the region, but they ship worldwide too. The wines of Etalon Rouge are fabulous and are sold on allocation only. The tiny cellar in the centre of Blaye is well worth a visit. This 2018 white is a terrific example of the potential greatness of perfectly ripe Sauvignon blanc in Bordeaux. Aged in French oak with stirring of the lees. Complex nose with white stone fruit (mirabelle, peach), ripe pear, a distinctive minerality and a hint of fresh rosemary. Concentrated and profound with enough acidity to balance the richness and alcohol (abv. 14,5%) in this warm vintage. The oak is hardly noticeable and the mineral finish is impressively long. Take your time to let it warm up to 14 degrees Celsius to capture all the complexity of this beauty. If you are lucky enough to find a bottle. Very nice value at 29 euros. — a month ago
