Seymour's Vineyard Syrah 2014

Seymours is my favorite Alban. Never disappoints. This needs another 5 years at least, but will last much longer

Jebs 98 point review The 2014 Seymour's comes from a higher elevation site that’s hammered by the winds off the Pacific Ocean. Classic Seymour’s all the way with its huge nose of black fruits, tobacco, ground pepper, crushed rocks, and ample meatiness, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, layered mid-palate, building tannins, and a great finish. While the Seymour’s is always the most backward and austere of the three single-vineyard Syrahs, the forward nature of the 2014 vintage shows in the wine’s texture and slightly more charming, forward character. Nevertheless, this brilliant Syrah will cruise for 20+ years in cold cellars.

We have started our “dry month.” One week in and will restart over thanksgiving. If I didn’t have so much wine, would probably give it up. I’m more productive without alcohol…

Reva Alban Estate Vineyard Syrah 2002

2002 vintage. Decanted and tasted 15 minutes and 1 hour after decanting. Slight amount of sediment. Cedar, cinnamon and traces of bacon fat in the nose along with a splash of VA. The VA blew off and wasn’t there after 1 hour but was hanging out at the onset. Medium heavy body with another 5-7 years likely dropping this to medium body. Smoked meats, bigg dark plum and roasted nuts still part and parcel during. No rush to crush. 10.28.25. — 8 days ago

The VA/ethyl acetate is, to me, a calling card for Alban’s Syrahs. I find it there 9/10 times

Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard Sonnie's Syrah 2014

Wow! Has a lot left in this one. Pepper, game, herbs, plums, herbal raspberry jam, just keeps going. There’s a nice freshness to it as it lingers. Almost mint and berries. Just outstanding. Not your average CA syrah! — 19 days ago

Maan…those older Qupé Syrahs have it going on.

Alban Estate Vineyard Viognier 2007

2007. I asked the sommelier about the 2007 Alban Viognier and he said that he had opened a bottle last week but hadn’t poured any yet. Definitely the color shows some age, but the flavors and aromas were Viognier. — 4 months ago
