Dinner at Duke's huntington beach. Fruity pineapple on the nose, balanced on the mouth with a super long finish. — 7 years ago
Bought at the Cellar door in 2020 and although this is made as a drink now style it was still holding up nicely in its 6th year when we drank it a few days ago. Bright pink in colour - unusually for a Rose this is a Cabernet Shiraz blend. Stewed red fruits - cherries and strawberries. Enjoyable unfussy drinking. — 6 days ago

Enjoyed 2 bottles at Duke's La Jolla, Sat. night of Mother's Day weekend. — 7 years ago
Blackberry, blueberry, vanilla, spice in the middle. I believe the first time I've had Mencia. It's good. Medium mouthfeel, some pleasant tannins; dry. If it stays balanced it could age a few more years. Good alone or with food (meatballs in red sauce with onion on a sandwich with provolone and Duke's mayo). — 8 years ago
Sparkling Shiraz is a tradition in Australia on Christmas Day. Bought this at Dukes Cellar Door 2 days ago. Very different to Barossa Sparkling like Rockford Black which, while good is much sweeter. This was savoury earthy and minerally - quite dark in colour. A great accompaniment to Turkey and Ham. — 6 years ago

Magpie Hill is the Reserve range from Dukes which is in the Porongurups, a sub district in the Great South of West Australia. The stony poor granitic soils giving concentrated wines. This producer possibly better known for its outstanding Rieslings has kicked a goal with this beautiful Shiraz. This has a very deep Ruby colour with a purple tinge. Smoky oak and mocha with ripe fruit - 14.5% ABV. Concentrated. Full bodied but not heavy- soft fine tannins. Made by the talented Rob Diletti who is their neighbour from his winery Castle Rock. Great value. — 3 days ago
