Domaine Laporte

Les Duchesses Pouilly-Fumé Sauvignon Blanc 2016

ДА. Средняя очень приятная кислотность, достаточно интенсивная, легкая фруктовая сладость, тело тонкое, отличный баланс. Отличное вино и самостоятельно и к еде. — 8 days ago

Domaine Leroy

Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2000

David T

Nose of; sweet & sour dark cherries, some fruit liqueur and alcohol notes, macerated; blackberries, blackberries, blueberries, black plum, plum & strawberries. Cinnamon, vanilla, sweet, rich, moist, dark earth, very light spice, some black licorice, crushed dry powdery limestone, fresh & dry dark red florals, red roses and violets. The palate is full medium and gorgeously round. The tannins still have some teeth. It’s a good time to have our last 2000 of this wine. Ripe, sweet & sour; black cherries, blackberries, strawberries, black plum, plum, blue fruit notes, touch of prune, & black raspberries. Light cinnamon & vanilla, sweet, rich, moist, dark earth, very light spice, some black licorice, fruit liqueur notes, black tea, crushed dry limestone, soft volcanic minerals with an edge as they set, some bramble, fresh & dry dark red florals, red roses and violets. The acidity is like Niagara. The structure, tension, balance and length is rock solid. The finish is; long, elegant and beautiful. The thing I like about the Domaine Leroy Village wines is that they basically make it very similarly to their wines that cost in excess of $800-$1500 upon release. However, their Village wine is around $50 if you buy it right. The difference in their village wines are the vineyard sites, but once the fruit gets to the Domaine, the grapes are handled in a very similar fashion. All sites separately fermented. Great wine and even better value. Lalou Bize-Leroy (mid right photo) still owns 25% of DRC. Lalou was once also the managing Director of DRC as well. She stepped aside over differences of opinion regarding yields and being completely biodynamic. Lalou prefers very low yields. Domaine Leroy is completely biodynamic. Lalou Bize-Leroy also has her own vine training method and all pruning is done strictly by hand. Additionally, she believes in the benefits of singing to her vines (her babies) daily. Lalou Bize-Leroy is and will forever be a legend in Burgundy as she has been deemed “The Queen of Burgundy!” — 17 days ago

Also thanks for helping me to notice the label differences. I went back to review the bottle I had a few weeks ago, and on closer inspection, noticed and updated the wine to the Maison version.

I was thinking of their Cru price differences as I was still rubbing my eyes waking up.

For the price of one Cru bottle, I could almost buy two cases of the B-R village. I haven't won the lottery over here, yet, so best to procure wisely (with your advice)! Thanks.

Domaine Jamet

Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah 2014

Our recent meal at The Modern continued with the aid of this very food friendly Syrah from Domaine Jamet. Jamet is one of Cara's favorite producers, in part because of her penchant for barnyard notes (regressive childhood memories playing in the British countryside, maybe). Through the generosity of friends we have been lucky enough to try numerous vintages of the Cote Rôtie. The entry level Syrah was something new. It is distinctly Jamet in that the signature barnyard notes are present and distinctive. The difference lies in the structure. This wine is lightweight in structure and the tanins are barely there. It is extremely approachable in the near term, and was just gorgeous with my beef course at The Modern. I may snag a few bottles. Perhaps one to tuck into while the Cote Rôtie gains age. — 5 days ago

Domaine Laroche

Vieille Voye Chablis Chardonnay 2014

Wow, what an impressive showing. Grabbed on a whim and I'm glad I did. Single vineyard Chablis sitting at the base of the 1er cru vineyard Vaillons and it certainly drinks like PC juice. Loads of minerals and saline notes - one of the few Chablis I've had recently that have that distinctive "oyster shell" quality. It tastes like an ice bed of fresh oysters. Beautifully high acid, lime, crisp apple, and baked almond/marzipan. Great with citrus-glazed salmon and alfreddo. — 10 days ago

Altenbourg Alsace AOC Gewürztraminer 2006

Incredible aromatics. This is like a perfume. Baked apple and pear, orange oil, ripe peach, dried apricot, dried pineapple and mango, mixed with some rose and lychee. Almost medium sweet. Good acidity and the intensity is just off the chart. Gorgeous! — 2 days ago

The ripeness of the vintage comes through in the fruit showing notes of pineapple and ripe yellow apple. Great balance and structure with vibrating acidity. Showing well now! #domainecostal #chablis #chardonnay #burgundy #ctbucklinwine — 5 days ago

Maybe I am just in the mood for Beaujolais Cru? This would be a fun wine to blind taste, because it really does have a lot to offer at sub $15. Medium tannin structure, concentrated flavors of blackberry cordial, bing cherries, red apples, flint smoke, green and black pepper corns, and a touch of fresh rosemary. Ample acidity, but some balance to it, with a slight evidence of Oak aging. Maybe it is due to this being a 2015, which has been a great vintage for Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Rhone. — 5 days ago

Domaine Drouhin

Laurène Dundee Hills Pinot Noir 2006

Changing lanes with this Oregon pinot. Spellbinding notes of dark chocolate and sandalwood on the nose. Wonderful poise and grace on the palette. The entry is soft and graceful with redcurrants, strawberries and rhubarb sailing on. Tannins and acidity are fused together nicely. A very elegant, precise showing which won’t evolve to a better place, so consume this vintage now. — 2 days ago

I visited this winery a number of years ago. Very fancy. The Lauren is a Barrell select as I recall. Very fine wine and worth a visit to the vineyard

Yes @Hugh O'Riordan. I have a statistics conference in Feb. I’m torn between the wineries or snowboarding 🏂 I think my plank of wood is gonna win, tho. But I agree with your point. This is a great producer.

Domaine Pral

Beaujolais Blanc Chardonnay

Melon, bananas and crisp acidity. Maybe I need a bit more mineral driven wine but this has plenty to offer. Crazy price point as well. Now, I have been sick so I might be a bit off. It’s the first wine I’ve had in what seems forever so it’s fabulous to me. — 3 days ago
