Need to me that anyone is even growing wine grapes there. Any idea which kind of Muscat grapes these are?

Hi David - this is Muscat of Alexandria, planted by the late Efren Chavez circa 1999 at 2600’ elevation. The wine is made by Hermann York, which is a collaboration of Dusty Hermann with brothers Garret and Taylor York out of Redlands CA. They are on their 3rd vintage. ABV on this wine is 12.42%, with a single barrel produced. From Chavez, they also make an Alicante Bouschet, and the beautiful Los Empleados (13.15%), a blend of Alicante Bouschet, Chardonnay, Muscat, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Viognier and Zinfandel. Maybe best can franc ever from Napa. Nose of peppers black and green, raw cocoa, violets, plums, black cherries. Palate is silky smooth with herbs, cocoa, cherry, pepper, tannin, hint of eucalyptus, a wonderful finish that is so balanced. Insane! — 4 years ago

Happy to be the first to post this. Delectable classified as a Rosé, but the HY boys say it was made as a white wine and presents as a Rosé.” Pic doesn’t capture the color. Beautiful nose, but finish a bit rough on opening. A few hours of air smoothed this out nicely. Wonderful on days 2 and 4. Part of the burgeoning SoCal wine scene. Keep an eye on these guys. Beautiful labels, better wines, terrific folks. 12.49% ABV. The NEW new California. Great things ahead! — 3 years ago
