2016 vintage. In their second vintage Kevin Labatut and Florent Zanetti released a special selection black label from their best parcels. It has more power and depth than the delicious 2015 white label. Attractive nose with red and black fruit mixed with flowers and some spices. Nice mouthfeel with concentrated fruit and ripe tannin, balanced by fresh acidity. Great value at 19 euros. Highly recommended if you manage to find a bottle (only 2000 bottles produced). — 4 years ago
A lovely casual wine, which frankly is my favorite kind. Perfect for drinking with a friend who’s making you dinner. Low acidity, just a tiny bite, paired well with a pasta in vodka sauce with Italian sausage but I think it would pair well with just about anything — 5 years ago
sweet aroma, Merlot rich, mid body tannin and spicy. 18 @4730, Pieroth, 240120 — 2 years ago

K&L notes as follows, Grand Pontet is an interesting property, positioned in the neighborhood of other stars of the appellation such as Châteaux Canon, Beau-Séjour-Bécot and Clos Fourtet. It is, however, a small estate, a mere 14 hectares, and its prices are much better than some of its more prestigious neighbors. In 1980 it was purchased by Gerard and Dominique Bécot, owners of the neighboring Beau-Séjour-Bécot. They have applied the same high standards to both Châteaux in their possession, and their winemaking team crafts Grand Pontet alongside the Beau-Séjour-Bécot wines. Recently purchased in 2021 by Domaines Clarence Dillon (Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut-Brion, et al.), the property was combined with and incorporated into Château Quintus. Full-bodied and luscious, this Grand Pontet is laden with ripe blackberry fruits, savory tobacco, licorice notes, and ripe, softened tannins. It’s seamless and bold, not shy. It’s going to require something decadent to pair with, such as filet mignon or some other black-tie dish with plenty of flavor and rich umami presence. — 3 years ago
First Bordeaux and I was impressed! — 7 months ago
Bold, intense. A blackberry, vanilla, leather and some spice. Very good. — 2 years ago
Premier st emilion 2017. Bernon becot. Some translucency in rubiness. Forest floor and currant on nose. On the palate, cherry, red berry. Tannins ok. — 3 years ago
2015 vintage. First vintage under new ownership (Kévin Labatut and Florent Zanetti). Merlot and Cabernet Franc (50/50).Intelligent winemaking with gentle extractions. Red fruit, subtle spices with a hint of mint. Impeccable balance with ripe red fruit, freshness and fine-grained tannin. Great value at 12 euros. Highly recommended. Abv. 14%. — 4 years ago

Château Beau-Séjour Bécot 2021
Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé, Bordeaux, France 🇫🇷
Overview
A benchmark Right Bank Bordeaux and one of the most celebrated Grand Cru Classé estates of Saint-Émilion. The blend typically centers on Merlot (about 80%), with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon providing lift and structure. The 2021 vintage reflects the cooler, more classic style of the year, showing freshness and restraint compared to warmer vintages.
Aromas & Flavors
Bright and elegant with aromas of red currant, raspberry, and wild strawberry layered with violets, graphite, and savory spice. On the palate, the wine unfolds with fine red fruits, black cherry, and plum, accented by notes of cedar, tobacco leaf, and crushed stones.
Mouthfeel
Medium to full-bodied with refined tannins and a polished texture. Fresh acidity drives a long, mineral finish, showcasing the limestone plateau terroir that Saint-Émilion is famous for.
Winemaking Notes
Hand-harvested fruit, traditional vinification, and a judicious use of French oak barrels (both new and seasoned) highlight balance and elegance over sheer power. The limestone soils of the plateau contribute to the precision and minerality in the wine.
Food Pairing
A natural companion for roasted lamb, duck breast, or earthy mushroom dishes. Also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and refined charcuterie.
Verdict
Château Beau-Séjour Bécot 2021 is a classic expression of Saint-Émilion — elegant, structured, and terroir-driven. A vintage that emphasizes finesse and freshness, it is enjoyable now with decanting but has the pedigree to age gracefully. Cheers! — 2 months ago
