RD Winery Hundred Knot Grenache 2019 Sonoma Valley, California

Purple in color with a wide reddish rim.

Sweet nose of cherries, blueberries, sweet strawberries, licorice, oak, tobacco, vanilla, chocolates, spices and black pepper.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, red currants, oak, tobacco, earth, spices, licorice, peppercorn, chocolates and coffee.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very enjoyable Grenache from Sonoma Valley. Nicely balanced and fruit forward. Easy drinking and good by itself or with food.

Showing mild complexity with a nice, soft mouthfeel. Light and engaging and a good summer wine. A nice light chill would be a good idea.

Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up and brings in more structure.

Alcohol is nicely integrated already, so watch out.

Would be nice to see how this evolves in the next 3 years.

I had it by the pool with some dried meats, fresh berries and cheeses.

A blend of Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah. Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months (20% new).

15% alcohol by Volume.

We are tasting through Lidl inexpensive wine to see if we can find any gems. This might be one. Smooth and with unique pinot taste, this is very drinkable and probably would stand up to a more expensive craft wine in a blind tasting. A bit tanic but also nice fruit notes. I guess I'm comparing age versus pedigree here within the Clerc Milon family.

It opened wrapped up in a knot. Off putting initial aromas. Deep dark just like it's rich younger sibling. Just beginning to brown at the rim. 30 min in it's starting to relax...

Soil. Licorice and something savory on the nose-- almost like a chicken stock. Alcohol infused chocolate on the palate with more earthiness. After 2 hours, I believe there may be more room to open or maybe it's wishful thinking because it all ends rather muddy and bitter..

In the end, I believe this wine is past peak. Probably by a couple or 3 years. It's still interesting and would pair ok with big red meats, but don't count on it too much longer. It's not a stand up 2010.

This has Sonoma and Monterey county grapes to go with the Santa in it. Classy label with a Celtic knot on it. Light, bright ruby red color. Smells like Pinot Noir. Hints of redwood bark meets red berries and wet rocks. Flavors are well balanced and complex. Bit fruit driven, but there is a bittersweet side here too. The blend of three locales worked out pretty well, and they didn’t just write ‘California’ which is nice. — 3 years ago

Quite a beautiful expression of the region… Chose to open a little early for a celebration, but the evidence of it potential was clear on day two after receiving some air.  it was striking that the balance was so distinctive given its potential acidic prowess. 2020 fall. This might be my favorite (at least for immediate enjoyment) among the wines guzzled on our recent Rioja binge. It’s open-knot, with lots of red fruit and spices like mace, but also has typical mature notes - that mushroom and cheese thing. At the same time, it doesn’t feel overly developed - it’s just layered. — 6 years ago

Words “Anam Cara” are Celtic for “friend of my soul.” Nick and Sheila have made wines since planting grapes in 2001. Pale lemon with aromatic aromas of ripe tropical, stone & citrus fruits. On the palate tart apple and melon flavors, with a crisp citrus tang. Medium+ finish, vivid acidity with rich ending. Drinking well now. Nice value. — 6 years ago
