Il Castelvecchio Chianti Colli Fiorentini 2011

Smooth, perfect with pasta/hearth meal. Earthy tones but a little bit of fruitiness.

For Matt's bday dinner at arrezo

Carso Cabernet Franc

Superb old world cab franc. Barnyard in the nose and very earthy palate. Great expression of the grape, with layers of complexity. This was the 2016. — 6 months ago

Carso Sauvignon Blanc

Bing cherry and raspberry dominate the nose and taste. Refreshing beginning to end. Soft, light, enjoyable sipper. — 6 years ago

Solo Uno Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

First wine opened from our honeymoon. After an hour of air, great and balanced. Ripe fruit but plenty of acidity. Still young, but not a fruit bomb. — 8 years ago

Castelvecchio

Carso Cabernet Sauvignon

Wow. Nose is pungent and fresh blackberry fruit.

Fresh and acidic well balanced fruit. Fruity but well made.

Cantine Castelvecchio

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2016

The nose is a bit mute right now but I smell some almond, some cherry, a bit of leather (?) and there's a bit of heat coming up after a while. The palate is very delicate and rather smooth. I was anticipating a bit more dryness. Nice fruit along a strong acid backbone, very nice velvety touch on the sides, velvety tannins with a very gentle drying effect, very long finish with cherry and a bit of coffee underlined by these velvety, gently drying tannins. This is a bit surprising but pleasant. I would never have located it rightly blind. — 2 years ago
