Tuesday night and tonight I have opened the 2015 Primus "The Blend" Apalta of Colchagua, Chile. This is a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 24% Carménère, 8% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc.
On the nose there is black cherry, black raspberry, black plum, black currant, chocolate, baking spice, green peppercorn, graphite and earth.
On the palate is black cherry, raspberry, plum, black currant, green bell pepper, herbs, pencil shavings, vanilla and earthy notes
This wine is full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel, medium + acidity and medium + fine rounded tannins that is fully balanced with a medium long elegant dark fruit seamless finish. A beautifully stylish wine that would go well with any nice savory meal. I hope everyone is staying safe and keeping healthy. Please continue to practice social distancing and wear your mask until we know this thing is well controlled. Has a great rest of the week and into the 4th of July weekend. Color of dull ruby with a touch of brown and purple gray. Nose of spice, dark berries and dark cherry, currants, cherry jam, coke, medicinal note, violet, a bit carbonates note, and a bit burning in the nasal cavity. Taste of ample acidity, vanilla, currants, savory spice, a bit peppery, a bit zest, refined yet solid tannins, and good alcohol strength. Aftertaste is medium with more sweetness and zest note. Pretty good. — 16 days ago
The Oak Farm rosé - Sangiovese and Barbera from Lodi - has a lively nose full of strawberry and cherry aromas, with some citrus minerality thrown into the mix. The palate brings red fruit and tropical notes with a pleasant salinity and a zippy acidity.

This is quite lovely. Night 1 was good, but 2 is better. I can smell this all night: ripe black plum, white raspberries, potpourri, and rose. The tannin are holding on and acidity barely present, leaving behind a juicy treat. It tastes like it smells, which is a good thing, maybe with a touch of wood. Definitely good with steak. — 6 days ago
Interesting wine that I obviously opened too soon
Derek Mossman began Garage Wine Company at a time when there were relatively few smaller, family owned wineries in Chile. He not only started his venture to produce hand made wines on a human scale, but also to buy fruit from and support farmers with great quality fruit throughout the country. Along the way, he also banded together a group of like minded wineries to create MOVI, a platform to promote smaller production wineries in Chile.
2016 The Ploughmen Carignan Field Blend of Carignan, Garnacha and Mataró (Monastrell, they seem to use French, Spanish or American grape names interchangeably!) bottled exclusively for UK importers Bibendum. — 15 days ago
This wine’s nose carries some great salinity and minerality, with notes of honeydew and orange peel. The palate is about as refreshing as a white wine gets, with plenty of citrus - tangerine, lemon and grapefruit. The acidity is racy enough to challenge any Sauvignon Blanc. I could down some oysters with this Fiano, or a Maryland crab cake - I’ve been jonesing for that lately.

Vermouth is just an underrated option overall as a stand-alone drink.
I like to first sip a new bottle with an ice cube to understand its flavor notes. But I think my favorite way to drink it is with club soda (Canada Dry is pretty much the best club soda with no added minerals — Topo Chico is good if you’re looking for mineralized soda water). So I add about three quarters of a standard rocks glass with club soda over a large whiskey rock style of ice and then pour vermouth directly over, watching it diffuse with the soda to etch out a light cola, dark amber, color.
This ones got notes of mocha, cinnamon, citrus, cocoa, cola, orange peel, and even some spruce.
Really just all around wonderful coffee cola sweet and savory flavors. I prefer a slightly lighter Spanish style sweet vermouth, but this is a good change up. — 2 days ago
This Italian grape grows dark in Lodi. The nose gives off black cherry, blackberry, cigar and cedar. It is a complex and delightful package of aromas. The palate is also dominated by dark fruit, with plentiful oak effects. It is a fresh wine, with lively acidity, and the tannins have a bit of bite just after the cork is removed. Wait a bit and they settle down.
