Montecastro Crianza es un espectacular vino de la Ribera del Duero que año a año va cambiando el coupage en función de la calidad de la uva de las fincas de la propiedad, predominando la variedad tinta del país o tempranillo. Esta variedad procede de viñedos con una antigüedad muy desigual, de entre 6 a más de 100 años. La vinificación se realiza en depósitos de hormigón termorregulados, realizándose una maceración en frío durante 2 ó 3 días, siendo la fermentación espontánea y la maceración de 15 días aproximadamente. La crianza es novedosa ya que se realiza no sólo en barrica de roble francés y americano, sino que también se le da un toque único mediante barricas provenientes del Este de Europa. Es de color rojo púrpura, siendo en nariz muy frutal, parcialmente especiado notándose ligeros toques minerales. En boca es untuoso, cremoso pero sin ser empalagoso, con una elegancia muy superior a vinos de su misma categoría. — 2 years ago

Drank in Italy's Piedmont Region in Novara, Italy, SW of Milan...at Hotel Europa. Was May '19 pre-Covid19 but we remember this wine...this wine...spectacular! Recall the deep flavor and balance, great wine for 1st nite of the trip at a picturesque small hotel in character-filled small town, very gracious proprietor, one night stay on the way to Nieve, Italy for wine tasting trip. Beautiful country, great wines, and the Govone Barbera was among best of the excellent wines on the trip...including Barolos and Brunellos. Don't recall the vintage but could be that's important. Okay, no one is confusing this with a Chateau Margeaux, but that's only because it lacks the really deep complexity. And many other ways, it has the rich depth and smooth tannins and even some of the aromas of the real thing. Lovely one. — 5 years ago
