Pergolaia Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2020

Caiarossa – “Pergolaia” Red blend– 2020
IGT Toscana – Riparbella, Alta Maremma – Italy 🇮🇹

Overview
A biodynamically farmed Super Tuscan red built around Sangiovese as the core, blended with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Pergolaia is Caiarossa’s most approachable expression, combining Mediterranean warmth with coastal freshness.

Aromas & Flavors
Red cherries, dried cranberry, tobacco leaf, and baking spices with hints of plum, cedar, and faint herbal tones. A mix of earthy Tuscan soul and dark-fruit Bordeaux flair.

Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied, supple, and structured with polished tannins and lively acidity. Balanced, savory, and elegant rather than opulent. The finish is clean with a gentle mineral echo.

Food Pairings
Pasta al ragù, roasted chicken, mushroom risotto, aged pecorino, or grilled sausages with herbs.

Verdict
A smart, quietly refined Tuscan blend, accessible yet serious, with the coastal lift that makes Caiarossa wines so compelling. A great value when you want nuance, not weight.

Did You Know?
Caiarossa farms according to Demeter-certified biodynamic principles, and their vineyards sit on a mix of clay, silt, and volcanic rock, a key reason for the signature mineral tension in their wines.

Another easy to drink at pop & pour. It’s a blend of 30% Syrah, 20% Cab Franc, 16% Merlot, only 10% Sangiovese, 6% Petit Verdot & 2% Grenache. As IGT as IGT can get. At 59.95 a bit pricey. Better at $45.

Nice ripe; blackberries, dark and slightly sour cherries, black plum skin, moist clays, muddy sandstone, pleasant spice, light, fresh tobacco, used leather, touch of tomato leaf, moist, mushy volcanic minerals, dry twig, dusty stones, dark & red, withering flowers, round acidity, well balanced, soft tension, mid structured, round lush finish that lasts 90 seconds and falls on oak powder, spice and pleasant soils.

I’ve done pop & pour, but I’ve never tried what you did. 😃

Toscana IGT Bianco 2020

Star bright yellow gold. Inviting nose of chalky lemon rind. Medium palate confirms the nose adding lime (the fruit), lime (the mineral), and green apple. Firm acidity from entry to the moderate finish which adds cilantro and cucumber that takes over the roof of the mouth. Wonderfully complex Super Tuscan white (Viognier and Chardonnay). Mediterranean fare is, of course, a natural -- Bronzino comes racing to mind -- but try with any seafood, lighter poultry, or cream sauce. Drink now through 2027. — 2 years ago

Well balanced super tuscan. decanted for an hour. smooth on entry and taste. the finish had the typical tannins, not overbearing. One more bottle to come back to in a few years to see if the finish gets better. — 9 months ago
