I fondly remember this wine. Had a couple of bottles in my dad’s cellar in the late 80’s. Some field mice got in and gnawed the top of the capsules off only two bottles in the cellar: both of the ‘81 Beaucastels! They knew. (They left the corks intact and the bottles were stellar.)

On the palate rich fruits of mango and peach flavors with citrus zest and earthy mineral notes on a balanced structure with lively fresh acidity. Pear and juicy cool fresh cut fruit on the nose. Green apple, some mineral dust. Palate is refreshing and generous with the cool typicity of the Loire, never mind this is Chardonnay. A wine of terroir- but a little funky and off kilter.. But… Beware, started to turn microbial a day after opening. — 3 years ago
