Drank the 09half bottle at the old Ebbitt bar with a house made walnut and cream ravioli . The dryness and mineral potency of the medoc alongside the pre pope visit crowd, under boars heads and dead turtle carcasses in lamppost light at 11 pm is like feeling the serpent coil up your leg whispering the unknown secret while your mouth chews the red fruit of old lands greedily without a care except that you should post your thoughts on delectable. — 10 years ago
Boars’ View “The Coast” Pinot Noir 2018
Fort Ross–Seaview AVA, Sonoma Coast, California, USA 🇺🇸
Overview
Handcrafted by Thomas Rivers Brown at the dramatic West Sonoma Coast site, this Pinot Noir highlights maritime fog, Goldridge loam soils, and heritage clones. The 2018 “Coast” includes 100% heritage clones—Calera, Mt. Eden, and Swan—meticulously fermented and aged to express both elegance and power.
Aromas & Flavors
Plush and aromatic: expect cranberry compote, lavender, sandalwood, and hints of violet. On the palate, it delivers black cherry, plum paste, nutmeg, quince, forest floor, and licorice—all layered over a finely tuned mineral edge.
Mouthfeel
Full-bodied yet refined. Silky tannins and well-integrated acidity support rich fruit without heaviness. A harmonious finish unfolds with persistence and grace.
Winemaking Notes
Destemmed fruit underwent fermentation and then aged 10 months in French oak barrels, 50% new, from François Frères, Remond, and Gauthier cooperages. The result is focused power with nuanced oak influence.
Food Pairing
Perfect with grilled duck, game birds, roasted pork, or truffle-scented risotto. Its depth and savory complexity also pair beautifully with hearty stews or mushroom-forward dishes.
Verdict
Boars’ View “The Coast” PINOT NOIR 2018 is a masterclass in West Coast Pinot—intensely flavorful, texturally rich, and meticulously crafted. A cellar-worthy wine with both grace and longevity. A rare Napa-level Pinot Noir priced in the $145–160 range. Cheers! — 2 months ago

This is Bell Road Vineyard Petite Sirah. Big heavy bottle. Dark color of boars blood. Smells like rotting maple leaves, maple sugar and black berry sauce. Tastes like licorice, molasses of pomegranates or mulberries, and smoked stuff (peppers or meats). This is high quality Petite S. Lively and lovely. — 6 months ago

Boar’s View “BDR” Pinot Noir 2021
Fort Ross–Seaview, Sonoma Coast, California – USA 🇺🇸
Overview
Crafted by Thomas Rivers Brown, one of Napa & Sonoma’s most acclaimed winemakers, this wine is part of the ultra-rare Boar’s View project, a label born from the legendary team behind Kosta Browne. The vineyard sits on the dramatic ridges of Fort Ross–Seaview AVA, overlooking the Pacific, where extreme coastal conditions produce tiny yields of intensely expressive fruit.
Aromas & Flavors
On the nose, a captivating bouquet of black cherry, wild strawberry, and pomegranate, layered with forest floor, rose petals, and a touch of savory spice. The palate amplifies this with notes of cranberry, raspberry coulis, subtle citrus peel, and hints of clove and tea leaf.
Mouthfeel
Silky yet structured, with vibrant acidity keeping it lifted. Medium-bodied but deeply concentrated, with a long, precise, and energetic finish that lingers with red fruit and mineral tension.
Winemaking Notes
Hand-harvested Pinot Noir from estate-farmed coastal ridges. Minimal intervention winemaking, aged in French oak (with a restrained use of new barrels), allowing purity and site expression to shine.
Food Pairing
Ideal with duck breast, seared salmon, or mushroom risotto. Its elegance also makes it a stellar companion for charcuterie or even simple roasted chicken.
Verdict
A world-class, small-production Pinot Noir that blends coastal vibrancy with precision winemaking. Rare, collectible, and already a benchmark for California Pinot — Boar’s View “BDR” stands shoulder to shoulder with Burgundy’s elite. Cheers! — 2 months ago
