This was an odd bird for me... being from the bluegrass state; I like a good bourbon and I like a good red wine. I felt the bourbon barrel aging added a definite flair to the nose and flavor, with a spicy delectable scent and an oaky musk that, at first sip, rolls your tongue. It felt similar to the sometimes stern first meeting with a good strong bourbon, moving you to a softer backend that brings you down more gently than a prescriptive opioid. I would recommend this with some great dark chocolate chip cookies, or a fatty steak that’s had its ass smacked and slapped on your plate! — 5 years ago
Inky and leggy. Deep dark currents, blackberries, hint of oak. There’s a sensation of bursting - the sensation of rich ripe fruit. The dust of tannin doesn’t overwhelm nor does the floral create a feminine flounce of near silliness. Celebratory without solemnity. Saxophone. Snare drum. A single alto female- singing I’ll Fly Away - Etta James- not a bluegrass version-this is heavier stuff. Why yes- another glass.... cheese? Dark chocolate? Yes! — 6 years ago
From the federal Xmas case. Drank on a quarantine Friday at sundown. Tasty and refreshing. — 5 years ago
Had this at Bluegrass and BBQ at knox. Tasty, not bitter, slightly dry. I would definitey have more of this! — 5 years ago

2014 Sandlands Contra Costa County Carignane is rustic, yet completely approachable. Tannic for sure, but has an elegance to it. Sandy Denny & The Strawbs certainly bring Traditional English Folk to the table, but the Strawbs’ love of Bluegrass adds some great layers to many of the pieces on this collection. Pretty stuff here. — 7 years ago
I am absolutely loving these south hill ciders. So fresh and so clean. Nice sweetness on this one but tastes like apple, apple skin, a hint of pear actually, and a bit of citrus. So tasty! Batch 1701 — 5 years ago
This is Gov case winner and I can see why: terroir-driven Chard fruit (slight tropical accent w/ a delicates floral frame) core palate. Sort of like Bluegrass is different than country. It was clean and my only regret was opening about one year too late it was clean and my only regret was letting some of that energy dissipate. At four years from harvest, the oak had rounded and it was certainly delightful. A useful minerality was gentle in the cleansing finish. My mystic was pairing with the wrong entrée which took some of the appreciation out of the quality build. I will look to get a 2017 offering as it should be all this and a little something more ;) — 6 years ago
