Such a nice toasty, malty red from Ancient City Brewing in St. Augustine, FL. The can says “Named after the Matanzas River, this ale pays homage to the early history of our city, when the Spanish took control of Florida from the French in a bloody conflict. A lovely showing. Last sip best sip. Was shy at first and then showed candy corn, salted almond, a hidden tartness and kind of sea breeze and mineral notes. A distant banana cream kinda thing too. That wonderful combo of fruity. Piquets met with dark fruit yet dry on the pallet. Delightful blend when a straight can might bear heavily and a Merlot or Pinot might not quite stand up... warmed up beautifully with new flavors opening up and a subtle but lingering end note. We enjoyed with rich seafood and Augustine sides. Wish I could say how it was the second night, but for this one, there was. I second night! — 8 years ago
