The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino wafts up with a mentholated freshness, hauntingly dark florals and crushed blackberries. It's round and supple, with ripe red fruits, licorice, bitter balsamic and cooling acidity. A sweet spice flourish emerges toward the close. $22.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous March 2024) — a month ago

If one person in the relationship likes salinity and minerality and reads The New Yorker. And the other likes perfumey but still dry whites and reads The Economist. Well this is your wine. Cloudy/unfined. Unripe peach, honeysuckle, and salt. — a month ago
A bargain-priced Nebbiolo (Spanna) from northern Piemonte. Nose takes a while to get going but then shows earthy macerated cherry and leather. Full in the mouth. Deep whack of fruit initially, then the tannins come on, and finally the finish tapers into a tail of dry cherry extract. Not the deepest or most complex but nice on a budget and can age a few years. — 4 months ago

Opened at 1 PM, started pouring into quite inappropriate glassware at 7PM.
Big shouldered, round, lots of carob hinting at dry cocoa, dark fruits. Tannins well integrated, many of the ‘16’s seem to be. Mouth filling. With protein very very nice. Brisket & lamb. Brown, blue and ochre on the nose and palate. A good number of years left I think.
No hint of over toast or barrel.
Very nice, especially with a varied long meal. long finish. — 4 days ago
