Vintage Scott McLeod! Poetry in a glass. This 2006 vintage perhaps exceeds the otherwise superlative 2007 and 2008 releases, though perhaps that is simply the recency effect. A perfect Rutherford Cab, estate grown and containing the requisite dark cherries, mocha, and dust. Perhaps my Platonic ideal for this region. Huzzah! 😺🍷🎉 — 8 years ago
Really well balanced wine, great balance of flavor, tanin and finish. Wish I had more — 9 years ago
Love this one :) — 10 years ago
Overall I have been happy with the way California 96's are showing and this is no exception. Another great Scott McLeod accomplishment. The sour black cherries and violets are subtle, the tannins are round and lush. Had some difficulty with the cork but otherwise an enjoyable and elegant wine 2 decades later. — 10 years ago
Creamy and smooth, this Chardonnay is strikingly different from the prior vintage. It has a splash of lemon zest and a hint of grassiness to the finish. It paired nicely with monster California-fusion style burritos. This wine is so young it should be illegal to drink it before 2016! — 11 years ago

This reserve release of the always superlative Pilot Hill Gang Cabernet Blend is labeled a Cabernet Sauvignon, so this one is at least 75% Cab, with the rest most likely Merlot. There is a bit of oak to the body, but not overmuch. The tannic structure is big; imagine Rutherford dust turned up to 11 😸 The overall flavor might be described as dried black currant and unsweetened dark chocolate. Perhaps there is a splash of Petit Verdot in the mix? Kudos Mr. Parish! — 7 years ago
Medium bodied with dusty Rutherford tannins, this wine, formerly called Cask, lacks the subtlety of the Scott McLeod era, but those estate Cabernet grapes are difficult to make bad wine from. Expect dark mocha cherry flavors. — 10 years ago
I had to consume six or eight bottles of this fantastic Merlot before I could feel sufficiently inspired to express how I feel about this wine. I have followed Scotts career for almost two decades and here he expresses his love of The Craft of Bacchus with his NW Swan Song.. This wine is everything that led me to become an oenophile (I.e. Wine Nerd) in the first place. It is full bodied without being cloying or smoky, with rich dark cherries and chocolate up front and a lingering, lingering, lingering coffee flavor on the tongue. Scott is keen on experimenting with grapes from lesser known AVAs and this El Dorado wine gives credence to his theory - the delightful dusty tannic structure could compete in a blind taste test with a Rutherford Cabernet. The new Pilot Hill Gang is great, and I hold Mr. Parish in high regard as well (my reviews of his wines bear this out), and I gave that wine five hearts, deservedly . However, as in Spinal Tap, this wine goes up to eleven. I just ordered another case and I urge you all to order two cases: one to drink now, and one to cellar. Note to Miles Raymond: we *are* drinking freaking Merlot 😹 — 10 years ago
To paraphrase the renowned philosopher Tom Jones, this Cabernet is like candy on a shelf; I can't stop helping myself to glass after glass. While for me this is simply a superlative cocktail wine, for those of us who enjoy charred mammal portions, I imagine it would be a champion food wine as well. — 11 years ago
Excellent ! Fresh and delicious at 29 years- 1993 vintage. Classic Cabernet Franc and exceptional balance well done Tony Soter and Scott McLeod — 4 years ago
Unbelievably excellent. This is classic Scott McLeod, thick and rich with the requisite mocha black cherry flavors, finished with the expected Rutherford dust. — 8 years ago
Eautiful... smooth — 8 years ago
Full bodied and strong finish. All kinds of tobacco and vanilla with an oaky touch. Nice back tannin touch. Sushi night just got better! — 11 years ago
