Nice South African wine dinner Wednesday at Angelo’s Cabarita on Sydney Harbour
Eight wines served with typical South African food so pairings were important as food can be quite spicy (Kingfish Crudo, Peri Peri Chicken, Bunny Chow Lamb Curry, Boerewors, Rib Eye and Malta Pudding)
The 2019 Kanonkop Paul Sauer Bordeaux blend from Magnum was excellent as was 2021 Meerlust Bordeaux blend as well as the 2017 Kanonkop Pinotage from Magnum. Also interesting was 2007 cold fermented Nederberg Edelkeur with the pud.
Great night.

Excellent! New year’s treat and wow was this as good as expected. Would love to stock up. — 4 months ago
1hr+ decant. Dark red color with slightly brown rims. Absolutely insane nose containing cedar, herbs, and tobacco. I would have guess first growth Bordeaux by the nose. Deep, juicy, high quality wine on the palate. Great depth and very long finish. This rocks!! — 19 days ago
Light gold color. Complex nose filled with beeswax, camomile, white flowers, and something subtle and sweet like apple Now-And-Laters. Well balanced on the palate with good acidity and medium depth, but not as expressive as the nose, maybe some stone fruit and butter. Very good! — 2 months ago

Another solid vintage of this South African Bordeaux-Style red. Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (49%), Merlot (28%), Cabernet Franc (20%) and Petite Verdot (3%). Aromas of black fruit, vanilla and dried rose petals. Flavors of cassis, blackberry, mulberry, black cherry, dried herbs and minerals. Lengthy finish and full bodied. Soft tannins and well structured. Nicely aged and quite elegant. — 10 days ago
Lots of beautiful happenings on a bed of chocolate pudding, raisiny fruit leathery notes and creeping volatile acid for that elevating effect I love.
Soft, plush, chewy, has some weight with zero grip and satin texture.
Cocoa, coffee, cassis, lavender, fruit leather and cedar. Departing breakfast of bacon and blueberry sausage - so long and goodbye. — 2 months ago
Cinnamon, red cherry, raspberries, roses, lavender, spices. Caramel and other dark flavors/ tartness follow through. The aromas blare from the glass. Medium body with the intensity of something fuller, manageable tannins. Lingers and wants to be paired with lamb or complex cheese. Brilliant on its own. — 4 months ago

2023 vintage. Medium/medium-heavy body. Musky/musty nose. Definite weight and beeswax in the front palate. Sweetness, acidity and stone fruit influences dropping in for a visit on the back end. 04.09..25. — 15 days ago
