Blend of Tempranillo (97%) with some Mazuelo and Malvasía Blanca from a tiny 0.24 hectare plot in Villamediana de Iregua, about 6 kilometers south of Logroño. Planted in 1986 and rooted in shallow sandy soils, the vineyard had been abandoned and was on the brink of being pulled out when Sínodo found it. After years of meticulous work on the vineyard, Los Tollos was recently designated as viñedo singular, the top-tier in Rioja’s new classification system, roughly equivalent to grand cru. Dark fruit, earthy and smoky notes and hints of chocolate on the nose. Elegant, serious, concentrated. One of my favorite Rioja producers. — 7 months ago
Floral and@spice while off dry — 9 months ago
100% Viura from 50-60 years old vines from a historic estate in Baños de Rioja which once belonged to Eugenia de Montijo, Napoleon III’s wife (hence its name). Since 2017 it has been recognized as Viñedo Singular (Rioja’s equivalent to grand cru). Fermented in concrete (50%) and oak barrels (50%). Aged in oak for 10 months followed by another 10 months in concrete. Delicate nose with aromas of beeswax, chamomile, fennel and floral notes. Citrus flavors (lemon), chamomile. Quite fresh. Decent, easy to drink half a bottle SO easily. Nothing off-putting. Would go great with pizza. — 7 months ago
Very good. Leather, blackberry, overripe strawberry. Tastes smoother and lighter than the bold aromas. — 8 months ago
On a hot almost-summer night this wine hits the spot! ☀️
It’s a Sauvignon Blanc from the Valle de Casablanca D.O. in Chile 🇨🇱 where the vines from which it hails receive cooling influences from the Pacific Ocean breezes, lending balance and preserving acidity. 🌊
It’s no wonder this wine is labeled EQ as in Equilibrio (the Spanish word for balance), because it offers a wonderful balance of ripe tropical fruit aromas and flavors with vibrant acidity and notable minerality. 🍍 🥭
The aromas and flavors are fresh, albeit ripe, generally tropical with passion fruit, guava, mango, underripe pineapple, also green apple, gooseberry, freshly cut grass, and wet slate.
It’s a perfect patio pairing and fun to explore the beauty of new world Sauvignon Blanc from this region.
It’s also a great value at $12.99. 👏👏👏👏👏
