I was just curious about NZ Pinots, this one is round, supple with full on cherry and a bit of raspberry. Unfortunately lacks a bit of earthy notes of a good Pinot. Although drinkable it has a a bit of barn and horse hair on the nose suggesting perhaps some spoilage during maturation. Let’s drink more and see...🤪 — 3 years ago
Good stuff. Classic CA cab character but severely overpriced at the winery, which one only learns after buying it for well less than half of their price at Bottle Barn. — 4 years ago
Color a is murky red brown. Nose—a sweet red cherry plum and forest floor barn yard funk with green veggie. A slight menthol lingering. Taste— Sweet strawberry tea flavors hit the pallet. A slight smoky and tobacco medium finish with touches of currant, tea and spices hanging around making the wine soft and pleasant and wanting more. Tannins have sweeten but definitely still there! — 2 years ago
Very peppery, almost old barn smell. Dried fruit and violet taste. Finish is very smokey. Love this wine! — 4 years ago
Tighter & darker than the 2012, more closed & brooding. Turned earth, leather, a bit of tobacco leaf. The dark fruit is hidden beneath, along tin some dried orange peel VA.
On the palate this is tight as well, with finely grained tannins and zippy acidity. But there’s depth here and energy too.
This needs more time or serious decanting, unlike the ‘12.
Need to revisit tomorrow.
Next day: still dark & brooding on the nose - dark cherry, malty notes, wood polish.
On the palate this has lifted - bright cherry, cranberry acidity, a hint of kirsch, some dark cocoa, beef roast, yunnan tea like tannins.
I miss the focus though.
Not bad, still prefer the 2012! — 3 months ago
