Alsace Grand Cru Steinert Gewurztraminer 2015

Light straw unfiltered in the glass. VA strong at first on the nose with oxidized forward, mellowing out nicely as it opened and smelling of ripe toasted fruits. Full bodied and round with good acidity cutting through. Tasting of tropical fruit, bananas, and melon with a fresh spiciness. Overall, a lovely and complex Gewurtz from Alsace - big and bold and fun to drink. Pairs well with gnocchi and ricotta. — 19 days ago

Very closed when first opened. This took five full days to really show. Very nice even with 22g/l rs which is sweeter than I prefer. — 3 years ago

Zinnkoepflé Alsace Grand Cru Gewürztraminer

Gewurztraminer from the Zinnkoepflé Grand Cru - known for producing exceptional, very aromatic Gewurztraminer. Located above the villages of Soultzmatt and Westhalten (west of Colmar), the Zinnkoepflé takes its name from “Sonne Koepflé” - the local name given to small circular marine fossils found in its
predominantly sandstone-limestone soils (some examples on display at the winery). Fragrant, round, smooth.

Marnes & Calcaire Grand Cru Steinert Riesling 2014

Celebrating Bastille Day with the spring dinner of the Confrerie St Etienne of Alsace association. Wonderful menu and perfectly paired wines.

Lemon and pear. Repeat. Lots of reductive notes on this wine. Not sure I would have called Alsatian Riesling blind. Hardly any petrol. Viscous. Definitely best served chilled. Once it warmed, the flavors became too melded (lots of pear, lemon tart, and stone fruit). Needs time.

Steinert Flaxman Valley Shiraz 2018

This is an exceptional inaugural release from Callum Powell and his Agricola label. It’s pure and bright with ample flesh and some beautiful Flaxmanns Valley concentration. Merv Steinert’s old vines made up the core of Rockford’s SVS Flaxmann in the day and they have a happy home here - 2018 — 2 years ago

Clos St. Landelin Vendanges Tardives Vorbourg Grand Cru Gewürztraminer 2010

Simply amazing. I would guess we’re talking ca 100 grams of RS here, but sooo balanced. Lots of orange and mandarin flavours, complicated by spice and hints of marzipan. Ripe peach too. In some magical way, the acidity, minerality and structure manage to hold this bold wine together. Very, very long finish. I wish more people will explore these unique wines. Foie Gras, yes please. — 4 years ago
