Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2001

Light garnet-ruby. Rusty, musty nose. Olive brine, dried blueberry. Long, juicy, bloody palate, with reverberating acidity and prickly tannins. Hints of roasted nuts and cocoa. So alive on the palate. A real treat. — 5 days ago

@romo Interesting. How so?

Look at your profile. This is an outlier. I feel same about Cote Rotie as a “real treat”.

@romo Fair enough. I def think of Cote Rotie as a special occasion wine but not an outlier.

Saint-Joseph Le Passage Syrah 2018

A heavy oak appearence, hot alc too, but when it’s hot and the wine is served cooled 14-15 deg. Celsius a thrill. — 2 months ago

La Rosine Syrah 2015

A genuinely exciting wine, this entry-level bottling from Stephane Ogier is a brilliant expression of northern Rhône Syrah that ticks many of the varietal boxes. Aromatic and fresh, with dark plum, cherry compote, dark chocolate, espresso and a slight blueberry note that almost contributes to a Barossa character, it feels generous on the palate with moderate tannin and acidity alongside notes of black pepper and black tea. The ABV of 12.5% is also refreshing. — 11 days ago

Syrah d'Ogier 2017

Beautiful entry-level cuvée by one of the great artisans of the Northern Rhône.
Simple and straightforward Syrah. Nose and attack on fresh black fruits (blackberries, blueberries). Clear neat body, enhanced with touches of violet, white pepper, and slightly minty, characteristic of Syrah ... Final which unfolds admirably with delicately chiseled tannins. Nice bottle to open as an aperitif, on a cold meats and cheese board, ideally accompanied by some fruit and nuts, and a piece of fresh baguette.

Oh man, still so fresh it could go another 20 years. Loving northern Rhône. Smokey, mellowed tannin and red / black fruit. — 3 months ago

Les Embruns Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2001

Still needs decanting, was a bit too rough upon opening, but a few hours latter it’s deeply complex, sublime, and smooth as silk. — 7 months ago
