Very nice. Smooth, sweetish red. — 3 years ago
Oxidative, port-like nose and showing a deep but bright golden color with orange hues. Making a striking first impression of freshly baked apple pie, complete with brown sugar, cinnamon and clove accents. Honey, almond, hazelnut, orange marmalade notes emerging but with a sense of freshness and lift. Very dry on the palate with moderate alcohol and med + viscosity, not at all heavy. Lean and supple on the mid palate, the wine is showing good movement and texture with some tannic grip which no doubt is the result of a skin maceration that probably lasted 2 or 3 days. 70 % Grieco di Castel Venere/30 % Cerreto. Good luck remembering that. Surprisingly fresh and vibrant for an orange wine. Worth seeking out. — 4 years ago

Unique southern Italian red, aged a long time—2012 vintage for 2019 drinking—but not in oak casks, so it’s brighter and it’s tannins are less pronounced than you might expect (although the tannins are definitely present and quite nice). Delicious balance overall. Cherry, blackberry, a hint of something savory on the nose, tobacco tannins. — 3 years ago

This is a Primitivo di Manduria with 6 years on it. I should mention that I cut my wine teeth on Zinfandel (when I was a dapper young man...1994 vintage), so I know the grape.
After my customary request to drop the temperature by 5-10 degrees (these guys in Italy too often pull a wine off a shelf and pop n pour, guess I'm wimpy)... Anyways, after cooling and opening, this was great.
Color leaning towards pink/orange, a meat note on the nose, nice spicy black pepper mid-palate.
As expected low acid, mid tannin, and nice finish. Solid. More Primitivo coming soon to a Delectable post near you!!!
