Bar-M Vineyard Chardonnay 2018

A real wine here, with structure, balance, and trickyness. Someone mentioned lemon oil on the nose and I also taste it on the palate, followed by medium mineral notes. Finally finishing with either very light acidity, or nice medium acidity. Every sip seems to give me a different level of acidity, even while drinking without food. This wine is a nice balance of fruit and mineral and acidity. Another review mentioned an old world feel, and I also get that too. All in all this is a great wine for under $30. But for $20 more you can get Nickel and Nickel. Just a thought. — 3 months ago

Greg Brewer’s Diatom label is an utter unique expression of chardonnay and is the best QPR you’ll find. This one - like many of these - will improve with a couple of more years in bottle due to the (relatively) high acidity. Super cool wine - like a Premier Cru Chablis on steroids. — 9 months ago

Santos Road Chardonnay 2018

This is one of the best pours of white I’ve had in the last 18 months. Really there are only 2-3 wines in that period that compete and they were 3x+ the price. The only quip is the high alcohol—it’s apparent at first sniff (but doesn’t impact the palate or loooong finish) — 6 months ago

Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay 2013

Not the best example of this wine, but still excellent (and definitely improved significantly with time in the glass). Glad to see Greg Brewer is making this again, though. Super cool wine (like a Premier Cru Chablis on steroids!). — 3 years ago

No, this is not a QAnon cuvee - that would be an empty bottle because we all know wine doesn’t really exist: it’s a lie created by the Deep State to steal your money - it’s another awesome chard from Greg Brewer’s Diatom operation. For those who haven’t had it, the Diatom wines are truly unique. Fermented at low temperature to suppress malolactic conversion (around 40 F if memory serves) and never seeing oak, this is like a Grand Cru Chablis on steroids. Incredibly pure fruit with bracing acidity, but high enough in alcohol to produce a beautifully balanced wine. The label took a hiatus for a couple of years during Greg’s transition away from Melville (I still have one bottle of the 2005 Clos Pepe from the first vintage), but its been back for a few years now. At ~$40 a bottle, you will not find a better QPR chardonnay anywhere. Great stuff! — 6 months ago

Q Katherine's Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay 2017

The cork right after opening smelled like honey, green apples, and pineapple. The nose smelled of yeast and fermented pineapple immediately after opening, but now with some time more honey and less yeast with an almost marzipan-esque smell. The palate transfers through from the cork with riper pineapple, honey and a sweeter apple. The finish is a bit of dried apricot. Acidity rushes down the sides of the tongue. This is nice with my panko crusted chicken and roasted carrots. — a year ago

Ch.igai Takaha Samurai Beauty Chardonnay 2009

Quite a surprise for a ‘09 in that it was still vibrant if ever so slightly touched by mature-squash aromas. Carries the 15% alcohol well; and delivers on nice acidity, balance and length. This is a finely crafted CH. — 4 years ago
