Paso Robles Sangiovese 2015

Why Caperone is not one of the most sought-after wineries in America is beyond me. This is like a top 1% of Chianti Classico. Very Old World. Exuberant nose is deep dark macerated cherries and licorice. Pungent gravelly/limestoney minerality. Very flavorful but with a bit in reserve that comes out in the long, intense, savory, nicely acid-balanced finish. Terrific wine. — 5 months ago

@Chris Shultz - I’ve had all their wines except the Cab, and every one of them was really good and very old school in style. Not to mention 1995-era pricing. I need to order some more.

I'd love to drink their Calital bottles, unfortunately it looks like they don't ship to NY. I think they must need a few years, though, don't they?

@Chris Shultz - I’ve drunk all the ones I got within months of getting them, and while I’ve heard they age well, they are all delicious right now.

Not sure how this is only an 8.5. Huge nose and flavors to match. — 3 years ago

Estate Grown Paso Robles Aglianico 2015

Delectable ate my contemporaneous notes on this, but from what I remember it had a beautiful balance of fruit and extract, just enough tannin, bright acids and high-toned limestoney Paso minerality. I prefer this over most Taurasis I’ve had. — a year ago

Estate Grown Paso Robles Nebbiolo 2012

Bright, clear magenta, mistakable for a dark rose. Gorgeous. Loamy mushrooms, tobacco, rose, and red fruit in a surprisingly quaffable balance. — 4 years ago
