Piña Fuego

Satisfying blend of pineapple and apple cider with chipotle peppers, slightly smoky and plummy with a gentle burn. Another superior offering from this Oregon cidery — 7 months ago

Sun's Out Saison Limited Release

Peach saison cider, made with “northwest apples and juicy freestone peaches [and] French saison yeast”, 5.6% alc/vol. Not much of a head on pour, a moderate stream of pinpoint bubbles emerges from the cloudy orange-yellow cider. Apple aroma profile on nose with light yeast notes. Apple flavor profile with some peach flavor on finish. Good mix of malic acid from apples and peach fruit acids on finish. Finish is fizzy, creamy and pleasantly tactile, with slightly tart aftertaste of peaches and slightly bitter saison yeast, which I rather liked. Almost dry. Well made, wonderfully textured with layers of simple flavors; another pleasant winner from Two Towns. — 4 years ago

8th Anniversary Specialty Cider Release

Made in Corvallis Oregon. Contains a blend of four American and English apple varieties- Roxbury Russet, Ashmead’s Kernel, D’arcy Spice and Northern Spy - slowly fermented with white wine yeast. 6.9% ABV. Very pale yellow white, not much head on pour, pinpoint bubbles that quickly fade, very slight haziness. Beautifully rich perfumed nose. Crisp, long slightly malic finish, spiced aftertaste, carbonation spritz throughout. Almost dry. Well made, special stuff, intriguing structure. It’s definitely worth trying though I’m not sure I’d want to drink it regularly (meaning it’s not a good candidate to become a session cider for me, even if it were regularly available). Some core astringency on finish as well. Must be the acid-tannin-spiciness combo that I’m struggling with; some will love it, but... — 5 years ago

Riverwood Prosecco Style Cider 2017

Traditions Riverwood Prosecco style cider. 6.3% alc/vol. Made of “Jonagold and Porters Perfection apples... dry, bright and floral”. Light brown golden in color, light carbonation, tiny bubbles, good head on pour but fades quickly. Really nice flavor, dryness, light crispness and bitterness with light to moderate astringency on finish but in a positive way here. Tastes like there’s wood spice there as well as cider was “finished in Chardonnay barrels”. Really nice stuff — 5 years ago

Newsome-Harlow

Calaveras County Mourvedre 2014

30ish bucks i think and it's a solid value.
After uncorking, I sniffed the wine in bottle and got a strong presence of molasses and brown sugar on the nose. But once it was in the glass, that aroma was totally absent. Cherry, raspberry up front, plum on the end, baking spices, little clove and allspice. Didnt feel hot and saw that it was 14.3%. Newsome is known for their zins. Their calaveras zin goes in the 20s and is a great value.Their single vineyard zins (shake ridge/kirschenman/big john!) are outstanding for under 40 bucks. Prospect 772 is my favorite rhone producer in calaveras county. Forlorn hope makes great natural wines. Newsome harlow is the zin master. Calaveras county is a gem in the sierra foothills. The tasting room is in murphys, which is one the most quaint towns in california. It's 2 hrs from the bay area, 45 min from skiing, and endless gold rush towns to explore.

Camp Clementine

Lemon yellow in color, very good clarity, decent head on pour but carbonation quickly recedes. Not much in the nose initially. Citrus and passion fruit flavors with tactile acidity - bubbles plus citric, malic. Apple flavors are threshold level at best; this is clementine and passion fruit forward. Refreshing with good alcohol and acidity balance, but I miss that apple cider flavor profile that should be there underneath. Definitely worth a try though — 5 years ago

Lol, agreed, Reims had many sidewalk doggie landmines to avoid on our walks, but Puligny so doing just fine.
