Jaspis Baden Syrah

I loge this wine and been many years since I’ve had the 2014. Bright nose of black berry, black cherry, cocoa, bittersweet dark chocolate, game, flowers, feral aromas, huge limestone footprint, floral and so so lifted. Just a crazy aroma. Wow. Palate has freshness and energy for days while showing berry fruit, huge minerals, some sweet fruit, a hint of oak, and insane length. Needs air but man is this an epic Jaspis Syrah. So textured. Big tannins and acid but man what a finish and structure. Fantastic wine.

Lovely nose. Discreet wood on nose. Red fruited. Earth, smoke. Totally mind bending. So complex. Floral. Gamey. Meaty. Complex. Elegant, concentrated, pure, elegant and barely sweet.

With air this come alive. Gorgeous raspberry sweet cakes, confectionary, floral, limestone. Cocoa, tree bark. So complex. Red fruited. So elegant, meaty and sweet fruited with dazzling purity, a bit of opulence and freshness. Awesome.

Just a stunning but young Jaspis Syrah which is one of the greatest Syrahs in the world. Stunningly aromatic nose that echoes the Ziereisen Pinots yet it’s Syrah. Meat, fresh and bloody, some pleasant bittersweet cocoa like oak. Insane aromas. Head spinning. Berry. Flowers. Tree bark. Earth. Just so so aromatic. And right out of the bottle. Yet the palate is a bit tighter but no less amazing. Amazing fruit and so silky. Amazingly juicy but also delicate and just has a palate presence that demands your focus. Amazing fruit on the backend that is almost Burgundian. My goodness this is so so long. Hermitage level. Endless finish. It’s so fresh and the limestone just screams on the finish. Just an amazing wine.

Germany does Hermitage. This is a stunning wine and can easily compete with the top the Rhone has to offer. Incredible stuff. Syrah has a bright future in Baden as well. Unreal perfume. Red berry fruit, superbly detailed, so mineral, bittersweet cocoa, tobacco, almost cassis and a hint of blackberry. So aromatic. Just amazing. Palate has stunning concentration and also stunning freshness. It is so fine. So nimble, almost Rieslingesque in its nimble fresh character. Wonderful tannins and the level of liveliness on the palate is like nothing else. Amazing hit of mid palate opulence. God this stunning. So textured. Such an amazing expression of place, soil and stunning freshness. Maybe the freshest Syrah I’ve ever had. Amazing velvety tannins. Finish is a mile long. Will age but super accessible today. One of the best wines I’ve ever had from Ziereisen. Just epic.

Lordy, I hope there’s umami. Oh yes there is. Huge raspberry fruit, but so much non fruit, non N. Rhone fascinating aromas. Palate is fresh and deep with amazing acidity and length. Super mineral and straight as an arrow. Better in 6 years.

A very refined yet fruited Syrah. Dark cherries. Spice. Dense but fresh. Bought from Fass Selections. A Syrah you need to try if you like Syrah.
