Zenato
Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend

Sergio Zenato and his wife Carla began to produce quality wines from an indigenous varietal, Trebbiano di Lugana, and passed down through the generations. A blend of 80% Corvina, 10% Rondinella, 10% Oseleta and Croatina. Medium Ruby with aromas of dried berry fruits, sweet and smoky notes with pleasant herb spice. On the palate flavors of ripe currants and sweet blackberries with cacao, spice, oak and nutty tones. Fine tannins, long complex finish ending slightly creamy with cedar notes. Starting to drink well now, enjoy over next 4-5 years.

Dark, floral, elegant and surprisingly savory, the 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico makes itself known as crushed stone gives way to a dusting of confectioner’s sugar, dried flowers, black cherries, plums and hints of licorice. This is velvety yet cool-toned and spry, with a staining mix of red and black fruits contrasted by sweet spices, as bitter hints of espresso bean and round tannins collect toward the close. A twang of balsamic-tinged blackberry and violets echoes through the long-drawn-out finale. Youthfully structured and still a bit reserved, but there are layers of primary complexities to keep the experience highly enjoyable today. That said, the best is yet to come. Nose has blackberry, burnt toast, blueberry jam, milk chocolate, warm dark chocolate cake, voilets, ripe plum and wet leather.
Palate has blueberry/blackberry jam, toasty oak, dark chocolate, rehydrated raisin, ripe blueberry and ripe plum. Tannins are mild, but resilient.
This bottle will drink easily past its 10th birthday without concern, and then some. I really love this style of wine, the concentration of flavors is second to none.

When a well-made amarone is at its prime, there is little else that rivals it. Such a good wine.

These are monster wines that demand food. Everything here is turned up to 11 (except the alcohol which is turned up to 16.5!!!) from the viscous texture to the rich pruney fruit. These are beastly wines built to go the distance. Approaching a drinking window on this 2007 but I’ll hold my other one for 5 more years.
