Z. Alexander Brown Wines
Uncaged North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon
Time for my #FridayCabernetfix. This time it is from the North Coast of California.
Ruby in color with a wide purple/reddish rim. A very pretty color.
Fruity on the nose with blueberries, black currants, plums, cherries, sweet strawberries, light oak, vanilla, earth, vegetables, dark coffee, earth, bell pepper, celery, spices and peppercorn.
Full bodied and smooth with medium plus acidity and nice legs.
Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, red currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, smoke, red chili pepper, green vegetables, herbs and peppercorn.
Tangy finish with very fine tannins and pomegranates.
This is a nice Californian Cabernet. Not fully balanced, but showing a smooth mouthfeel and nice complexity.
I had it about a year-and-a-half ago and now it is much better, although not as good as their red blend.
92 points Wine Enthusiasts.
Good by itself as a sipping wine. Needs to be opened for 90 minutes to remove much of the acidity. I used the Vspin for 15 minutes.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
88 points.
$15.

8.8 are you kidding me? This drinks like a gas station Malbec. Fruity and jammy, absolutely no structure what so ever. No acidity and no tannins, in a blind tasting God could not identify this as cab. The flavor is not completely bad but the lack of balance makes it sickly sweet. Save your money.

Tart and chocolatey nose of cranberries, plums, strawberries, vinegar, licorice, wood, earth, dark coffee, alcohol, mocha, chocolates and black pepper.
Full bodied and elegant with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, strawberries, raspberries, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, diet cola, chocolates, smoke and peppercorn.
Medium finish with soft tannins and tart strawberries.
An average California Cabernet at a higher price level. It has some complexity, but still unbalanced. I'm not sure if additional bottle time will be beneficial here, but since I have another bottle, I'll give it another year.
Needs an hour in a decanter to open up.

Very light and fruit-forward for a Cab. Drinkable, yet doesn’t provide a ton of interest on the palate

May 12th, 2018Medium bodied cabernet w scents of cocoa and a blackberry cocoa finish and would compliment a meal with a bit of extra fat (maybe ribeye steak)
