Liquid sunshine! Easily one of the best whites of the year so far is this Condrieu from Yves Cuilleron. A drop-dead gorgeous wine that soaks the palate with a multitude of tropical fruits and a cotton wool texture, whilst keeping the drama alive with good acidity. The finish is impressively long and ends on a distinctly dry, slightly bitter note that only adds to the overall complexity. Incredibly enjoyable and - whisper it - a bloody good accompaniment to takeaway tandoori chicken.

I first enjoyed this Condrieu ‘La Petite Côte’ from Yves Cuilleron earlier in the year at which time it was gloriously vibrant, lithe and very enjoyable. This time round it showed notably different; it seemed dull and heavy by comparison.

Quite oaky, with forest floor, white peach, anise, and grapefruit. A pleasing palate, but my experience can’t help but be tainted by its poor performance this time round.

Condrieu of course unusually benefits from being drunk young - could the six months or so since I last enjoyed it have seen it go over the hill? Or simply bottle variation, perhaps?

A shame, but such is wine: unpredictable! I have one bottle left which I’ll hang on to.

Bright, green-tinged yellow. Penetrating aromas of fresh citrus and pit fruits are complicated by suggestions of chalky minerals and pungent flowers. Juicy and sharply focused, offering vibrant pear, Meyer lemon and honeysuckle flavors that show very good clarity and minerally lift. The mineral and floral notes carry through the incisive finish, which lingers with strong tenacity. Raised in neutral barriques. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, May 2020)

At restaurant in Vienne on March 2, 2020. Little finish for a Viognier.

15.5/20 (86/100) Много кожи и скотного двора в первом носе; в развитии появляются чёрные ягоды. Тельное с довольно высокой кислотностью и интенсивными, сухими танинами. Рустично.
