Perfect wine to dress up an otherwise mundane meal. Two Yorkville Cellars wines from the ‘06 vintage in less than a week. Both were quite excellent.

2016 opened March 2020. Ouch! This is pretty bad. I remember liking it in the tasting room last year. The bottle has an intact cork. Rhubarb and citrus on the nose. Not much happening on the front, and lots of puckery high notes on the mid palate, and it finishes with a sour taste. I’m going to do the classic French move, and recork this wine, minus the little that I drank, and I’ll revisit it tomorrow afternoon after its had a chance to unclench it’s angry little fist. UPDATE: I recorked the bottle and let it sit for 24 hours. The following evening it became quite pleasant to drink after letting it unwind for a day in the bottle. 8.0 out of the bottle, and an 8.5 after it mellows for a day. Glad I didn’t have to pour this one down the drain.

Great, as always. Nicely balanced. Great mouth feel. I just bought another 1/2 case.

The result of an accidental experiment is an inexpensive wine that aged extremely well way passed what it was supposed to - 15 years -, bettered itself, and is a genuine testament to the virtue of cabernet franc - peppery bouquet and elegant aromas. Very well made in the price range!

Damn fine, somewhat uneventful but incredibly drinkable.
