A collection of great Australian Reds - Christmas break up of the Tennis Group on Monday. This was one of the best on the night. Still travelling well with say a 5 year future. Brilliant. Delectable: This is a Shiraz Cabernet released to commemorate 100 years of Wynns.

Well if the 82 Bordeaux are proving amazing so is this Wynns 82; like it's cousins in the Medoc; very cabernet dominant; winemaker at the time John Wade, now a WA resident; had his first go at small barrique winemaking; now more cleverly used by Sue Hodder; current winemaker; this 13% wine still has the black fruit of correctly ripe cabernet; and the tannin draw and backbone which ticks my boxes; great drink from Coonawarra; wished more from that region show this way; the bar is set; 33 years later; #wynns #coonawarra #cabernet #1982

2 people found it helpfulAug 24th, 2014The 61st vintage of this remarkable wine - the Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon. Sue Hodder Chief winemaker said she had recently tasted all 61 vintages. I asked how the 1950s were holding up. She said apart from cork issues not too bad but the 60s were outstanding. This 2016 was from a slightly warmer vintage than 2015 and not as leafy as normal. Oaky but lovely Cabernet fruit. Obviously with a long future.

Deep garnet color. Nose starts off with prunes, slight chalk, and ended with a little cassis. Moderate tannins (5.5/10) with a low to mod body. Short finish. Not bad but you can definitely feel the age. Drink asap.
