Wynns Coonawarra Estate

Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 1982

Well if the 82 Bordeaux are proving amazing so is this Wynns 82; like it's cousins in the Medoc; very cabernet dominant; winemaker at the time John Wade, now a WA resident; had his first go at small barrique winemaking; now more cleverly used by Sue Hodder; current winemaker; this 13% wine still has the black fruit of correctly ripe cabernet; and the tannin draw and backbone which ticks my boxes; great drink from Coonawarra; wished more from that region show this way; the bar is set; 33 years later; #wynns #coonawarra #cabernet #1982 — 9 years ago

The John Riddoch from the same year was a stunner as well.

Agree; but more oakier than the black; double new oaking has made the Riddoch a trifle oily; whereas the black looks integrated.

John Riddoch Limited Release Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 1985

Top Shelf cabernet from the Wynns label; at this stage in its infancy in developing super-premium; mature aroma- mocha, bonox, wet earth; palate correct red fruits of cabernet, sweet though oak yet to integrate well; chunky tannin, needs another 30 years (cork actually sound, wine fresh) #coonawarra #wynns #southaustralia — 9 years ago
