Woodlands
Margaret Woodlands Vineyard Red Blend
Previous notes apply. More cassis than the recently tasted 2008 Lenton Brae (nearby vineyard) and overall a slightly better wine. An amazingly good 2nd wine from Woodlands from an excellent vintage. This is predicted to be drinking well towards the end of this decade and as I have 5 left I will have one every 18 months from now on if I have the patience! I ended up having the next one 50 weeks later on 31st October 2021. Definitely more herbal and brambley characters than cassis and black currant. Just medium weight 91 points. I think drink the remaining bottles in the next few years.

Nov 15th, 2020I bought a dozen about 7 or 8 years ago so there are several previous notes on Delectable. Always consistent to previous notes. Herbal, black currant - a well made Cabernet blend particularly for Woodlands 2nd ranked Cuvée. Holding up well - I still have 6 left.

Jun 12th, 2020Mid to deep Ruby. Black currant and Margaret River herbaceous notes. Medium weight with medium plus intensity. Amazing quality for this Woodlands 2nd wine. Many Margaret River producers would be happy to have this as their No. 1 wine. From another good year in the Margaret River - will go on for at least another 5 to 10 years.

Oct 11th, 2019Deep Crimson. Aromas of Cedar, Bay Leaf and dried Herbs. A totally balanced and seamless claret - very good for Woodlands 2nd ranked Cuvée but not as long lived as I thought it would be when first tasted 5 years ago. Hats off to Stuart and Andrew Watson - a very Good Cabernet Blend with great QPR. Tasted again 272 weeks later on 24th June 2022. From the excellent 2009 vintage. Andrew Watson said to drink the 2010 before the 2009 which was the better vintage. All the Cab descriptors including bay leaf, blackberry and Margaret River herbaceous notes. Great QPR. Had the last 2009 Margaret on 11th April 2024. Certainly needed to be drunk at 15 years of age. A little tired and descending off the plateau. Still good for a 2nd wine. 90 points.

Apr 16th, 2017One of the better second string Cabernet blends in Margaret River but puzzling in some respects as not as intense as 2 years ago. Initial mild vanilla notes then typical herbal aromas and detuned black currant. A lighter wine than expected but still very good.

Nov 3rd, 2016Somewhat closed on the nose with elements of bay leaf and black olive. Medium bodied palate. Lacked complexity. This wine a bit behind their premium Cuvée for 2007, the "Nicolas".

Aug 4th, 20152005 vintage, rescued from the cellar today. What a testament to the quality of Margaret River Cabernet. Divine, the fruit shines through the palate and the briny tannin structure is magnificent. Enjoyed every sip!
