Wittmann
Brunnenhäuschen Riesling GG
A very good Grosses Gewachs from Wittmann. Lovely aromatics of white flowers, under ripe nectarine and slatey minerals. The palate was light to medium weight but with with great length and precision. Stone fruit notes. Medium plus acidity which makes me think this has a number of years left. Finishes dry at 13% ABV but was expecting a more fulsome peachy palate. Not quite there for $133 AUD per bottle. More fulsome the following day.

Sep 18th, 2020Pure lemon and lime heaven. Mixed with creamy minerality. The acidity is just precise af. Mind blowing! This has great aging potential and I suggest to wait at least 5 years to try again.

Mar 26th, 2020Quite punchy and rough, sweetness is there but very high acidity and quite thin sharp expression of oily notes makes it feel young and energetic

Dec 22nd, 2023Yup. Yum. For those who care about ageability: this showed signs of oxidation on Day 4 open (in the fridge overnight). My count suggests a drink window of 9-15 years post vintage? Thoughts?

Aug 22nd, 2020I've had some 2018s, but nothing yet at this level. This was an experiment, and a stunning btl of wine. Double decanted. On the nose: lychee, underripe pineapple, pine nuts, liquified stones, amazing complexity. On the palate, the acidity sneaks up on you, but then this flits back and forth between amazing dry extract and lovely tangerine, peach and a touch of spice. The acidity hits on the finish, which is spicy, amazingly vibrant and so dense. Wow.
