Witchery Wine
Reserve Proprietors Blend Napa Valley Red Blend
Saw that @Greg Ballington cracked open a few of these yesterday and it jogged my memory that he had sent me one in a trade. Winemaker here is Grant Long Jr, who is best known for his personal label, Aonair (a household favorite). Thanks for the introduction, Greg!
Dark purple in the glass. At pop and pour, aromatics of grape jelly toast, blueberries & blackberry truffles were huge. Front and mid palate were an extension of the nose...grape jelly toast kept coming to mind, along with plums and black licorice. A tad hot with some spice on the finish. Texture is very nice after about an hour decant. Have yet to drink a Grant Long Jr wine I don't like. This will hit all cylinders in about 3 years. 👌

Ruby red with purple hues. Nose has: dark fruits/berries, cinnamon, vanilla and baking spices. Very interesting for a 2011. Solid full bodied palate. Moderate plus tannins (7/10). Velvety and plush. Cinnamon and full of dark fruits. Creamy too. Very solid and long finish. Reasons why we buy from Gordy!!

Apr 11th, 2016A little sour cherry in the nose, a little harsh on the palate. A little cassis in the palate but needs some time to air out and integrate more fully. High alcohol in the palate I hope it wears off.

Nov 30th, 2015Second time trying the 2011 Witchery Proprietor Reserve, although this is the first time since I have started taking wine tasting seriously. The color is a dark opaque ruby red and not cloudy. In the nose, this threw me off, tons of perfume and flowers. Followed with cloves, sweet cassis, and for some reason christmas cake with brandy. Little bit of cassis and dark fruits on the palate. The body was moderate at the maximum with moderate plus (6.5/10) tannins. Wine was very smooth, rounded and silky in texture. One disappointing part was that the finish did not linger very long and was a little short. Definitely still a great wine, just interested to see what will happen with more time and up against the 2012 and 2013 I have arriving next month. (Edit: I forgot to mention that it was decanted for 5 hours.)

Oct 25th, 2015Received en échange with @Greg Ballington. One of Grant Long Jr’s wines.
This displays his trademark fruit forward style with remarkable purity. It isn’t over oaked and not saccharine on the palate.
A big win.
