Spätburgunder

Haven’t had in over 2 years and for a Gutswein this is very nice if a bit on the down turn. Damson nose of mid season cherries, spice, tree bark and some nice woodshop vibes. Palate is juicy and has good fruit saturation. Great balance and freshness. Blackberry echoes on the finish. Tannins a bit big and drying and maybe beating the fruit. Better with food but very nice without. Finish is a bit short.

One of the best values in all of German Pinot. Spice and red fruits. Apple skin, cherries, flowers. Gorgeous depth and breadth for Gutsweine. Palate is ripe and generous with sweet fruit and bright acidity. Fruit is ripe but that perfectly level ripe. Gorgeous palate that has earthy sweet fruit and great amplitude. Pure and long with great balance. Easy to go down. Lovely.

17 German Pinot is great. More south (Rheinhessen, Baden) it has the power of 15 and the precision and freshness of 2016. Huge berry fruit. Clean and fresh like right off the tree. Earthy and mineral as well. Young and grapey at the moment but with gorgeous precision and purity and lovely Pinosity. Insane value.

A great German Bourgogne rouge.

Nose is cherry flower. Early season cherries.

Palate is crisp cherry. Some hint of spice. Grippy. Still fresh.

A remarkable effort for the pittance this cost.
