Wind Gap Wines
Sonoma Coast Syrah
My last bottle of four. Just...not particularly fun. I find myself trying to hard to like this. Opened and serially tasted over five days with very little evolution. The intent and fruit quality is there...but the enjoyment is not. It comes across as underripe? I recall liking this a lot more.

Apr 14th, 2019This is how you do cool climate Syrah without ignoring California sunshine. All the smokey, meaty, olive-y briney-ness of a great St. Joseph, but with fruit that's a little more central to this wine than you might find in the Northern Rhône. I wouldn't call it lush or molten or anything, but it manages to be ripe without overpowering the savory side or coming across as sweet. Value every year, good now, good later v

Dec 11th, 2017We couldn't wait, Pax. Young but lovely... Delicate blueberry, boysenberry, lavender and black pepper aromas, and brambly goodness through the midpalate. Bright finish, bright future!

Mar 28th, 2016A little austere but bright forest fruits are there with rather bracing acidity. Comes across old-world and rather charming. Let's be honest, these are very young with massive potential. Can't wait to try these with a few years of cellar age. Nice work by the man, Pax Mahle.

Oct 15th, 2015Love the style of this house. Varietally true wines, fruit driven but with just a touch of old world character.

Aug 15th, 2015Young yet, but already so pretty. Blue fruit starting to unwind to reveal game, earth and leather. Closer to St. Joseph than typical California.
