All the Christmas essentials: Turkey, family, and a super kabi! Best bottle of this Schaefer haul from DC - still a touch of petrol on the nose but it doesn't quite disrupt the finer floral and slatey aromas. Interestingly also felt "straighter" and lighter than the last time we had this. Very airy and saline on the palate. Superb with Christmas dinner.

Save for a light petrol taint (it should not be in young rieslings - I feel strongly about this!), this was lovely. Rounder, fruiter and perhaps a touch sweeter than the 19’ we had a couple of weeks ago, it was still elegant and classically kabi. Flavour-wise, there was lots of peach, green apples, and cassis with subtler notes of wet slate, smoke, and spice. A weaker package than the 19’ for sure, but a pristine bottle would have been a fairer comparison. Still successful in the drinkability front though - first bottle emptied tonight!

Willi Schaefer really knocked it out the park with this 19’ kabi! It just screamed finesse, all in a hugely complex package. The nose soared with notes of flowers, lime, peach, herbs and hints of petrichor. So pure and intense on the palate, yet so light and playful. It just entices you to take another swig, and another, and another, and before you know it, the bottle’s empty. With the prawns during lunch, it was gone in no time at all. On any other day, this might have been everyone’s favourite of the lot, but the Prevost was just performing on another level this time. A cracking wine regardless.

Better acidity than the Graach Himmelreich Kabinett 2011, but not very well integrated. Preferred AP# 16 12 to this bottle, which is AP# 03 12.
