Calabria Family Wines hail from the state of NSW in Australia 🇦🇺. I love their emphasis on alternative grape 🍇 varieties and the affordable price points for their 'Private Bin' range of wines. This $15 wine made from Montepulciano really helps express Calabria's Italian family heritage.

The 2016 Montepulciano would be ideal for pizza night or with light Italian and Mediterranean dishes.

It's virtually opaque on the eye with a purple-red colour to it. On the nose I pick up sweet black cherries, plum and a hint of pepper and tar. The palate is juicy, vibrant and full of flavour with a nice long finish. Flavours of cherry 🍒 and raspberry coat your mouth with soft supple tannins topping off the journey.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy! #gifted #tcweekdaywine

Calabria Private Bin 2013 Montepulciano, $15 via www.calabriawines.com.au

I'm jumping straight to the nose on this one as it literally launched itself right out of the bottle and up my nostrils as soon as the cap was cracked! Intoxicating whiffs of chocolate, freshly ground coffee beans, leather books and a bowl full of cherries. Lovely vibrant purple-red plummy colour on the eye, virtually opaque. On the palate it's just so darn smooth with such a beautiful mouthfeel, flavours of cherry cigars and it has well balanced hints of tannins and acidity!

Montepulciano is the name of an Italian town and also a grape variety which is widely planted in Italy - it's great to see Calabria planting some here in Aussie!

A big thanks to Calabria for this sample bottle. #Gifted

Lovely fruit and great smell. A bit young but already a very tasty wine.
