Germany does the right bank. Gorgeous nose of cocoa, slight oak, spice, cassis, kirsch and tobacco. Wow. Terrific minerality as well. Palate is rich and ripe with terrific opulence and depth and such suave and svelte tannins. Juicy and super clean with great purity and cleanliness. Such energy. Terrific inner mouth aromas and such balance. A big wine but never heavy. Terrific concentration and power but refined. Long. Has 10+ years.

Aug 8th, 2019This is a special cuvee that Leon only made once to celebrate the birth of his son. It’s a Cabernet/Merlot blend and effing brilliant. Sick nose. Herbal/bell pepper with big cassis, some wood, but not obtrusive. Floral and just beguiling nose. But the palate. My goodness. Elegant and structured with insane sap and structure but the freshness is what really sets this apart. This is magical wine. Wow.

This is Germany at its best. The depth of this wine suggests that it’s a true banger. Such a beautiful expression of CS and Merlot. We must not forget Germany can do these both well as evidenced recently by Ulli Steins CS from the Mosel. If CS, Merlot is gonna come back it’s Germany and producers like Gold who’ll prove that you do really like these grapes. Respect.
