Wallis Family Estate
Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon
The first one i’ve had that is finally starting to open up. Dark as night in the glass and full of rich black fruit. Mild acidity and still medium but softening tannins make this a good wine for food. This threw a ton of sediment, had a full half glass of dregs leftover.

Oct 18th, 2018Good. Needs a lot of airtime and food. Very full bodied and a lot of chewy deep tobacco and earthy flavors that overwhelm the fruit here.

Beautiful balance between floral and ripe red fruit on the nose. Violet, licorice, and black currants with notes of blueberry jam.

Decanted for 1 hour, got better after 3. This cab is the novel, not the movie. While not showy, it is deep and ultimately a thinker. Pretty blue and black fruits blossom into floral and savory mids and the finish is very long, showing mint, coconut and beautiful rockiness that is pure DMD. Really fun to drink.

The nose offers up cocoa nibs, oak, rocks, purple fruit and a dark floral aroma. The palate is so smooth even at this young age. The tannins are pleasant and sweet, with a touch of smoke and ash. I'm astounded at how smooth this is in the mouth, but can't help but wish for a bit more mountain fruit florals.

Jul 25th, 2016Somewhat generic Cali Cabernet that has just an edge to it which I’m not sure will be smoothed over time. Still a great drink but for big west coast Cabs one might look elsewhere.
