W. B. Bridgman Cellars
Columbia Valley Syrah
Tried the ‘15 & ‘16 side by side. Deep Ruby with purple edges, aromas of black fruit and spice. On the palate this is a simple easy drinking red, flavors of blackberry with pepper. Tannins are a bit biting, medium finish. Tasting Sample.

Sep 26th, 2019Tried the ‘15 & ‘16 side by side. Deep Ruby with aromas of black fruit and spice. On the palate blackberry and blueberry flavors with lighter spice than ‘16. Tannins are not too austere, medium finish, a bit better than ‘16, simple easy drinking red. Tasting Sample.

Sep 26th, 2019Not bad, but just fair. Had nice dark fruity flavors and a silky finish and lingering baking spice, but was just lacking in bountiful flavor and character in the middle. I usually enjoy Columbia Valley Syrah and wine in general but this wasn't my favorite.

Sep 15th, 2015Not sure what to think of this one. It has the characteristic blackberry, heft and nice round mouthfeel (Kind of like a corpulent, provencial stockbroker.), but there is such an upsurge of buoyant acidity, like a roiling, textural speed bump (not unpleasant at all), unexpected though, and pronounced. I am putting it just on the smiley side of this obscure rating rating system because I am not sure whether I am happy to experience Syrah like this or whether I miss the double breasted cigar-chewing old-guard Syrah of my misspent youth. This one will remain enigmatic for now. Capitalist pigs!

Sep 3rd, 2013Figgy and vanilla bouquet gives way to an expectantly oaky and fruity palate. Lots of vanilla up front, fruity but not too sweet. Oaky but still complex with layers of (mostly dark) fruit and a touch of pepper. Not the boldest Syrah, but held its own with a not-too-spicy pumpkin curry. Fantastic value for a $15 bottle that drinks like a $23-$27 wine.
