Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese

2006. A happy accident tonight. Ordered an 09 by another producer but the newbie server brought this instead. After a bit of research we agreed to this selection and boy were we happy. Started out a bit akimbo but 20 minutes in it began to shine, getting brighter with each pour. So glad I declared 2017 to be our year of Italian wine. With this rich, elegant, and complex treat as our opener, we are in for some great adventures.

Lovely. Just lovely.

Delicious chocolate-covered cherry and a hint of tobacco. Plenty of acidity that's not quite yet integrated with the fruit. Give it 3-5 more years.

Sock water stew in a field of lavender.

A good wine past its prime. Oxidized. Maroon colored. But still very tasty. Dark plums. Dry finish. If I find a younger vintage would definitely try.

After reading the ratings for this year my expectations were very low. Opened boldly after decanting. Lots of flavor with very little tannins. I noted the cork was tightly sealed in the bottle so this could insure the longevity of this wine.
