Villa Creek Cellars
Avenger Paso Robles Syrah Blend
Perhaps a little bit past it’s drinking age, but still a nice smooth GSM blend. Mellowed, but still hefty.

Nov 16th, 2019Unctuous. Best way to describe this wine right now. Drank alongside a Marcoux CdP and this wasn’t even close to the Marcoux’s character and depth. Not to say this wasn’t a good wine; in fact, it was quite good indeed. Expectedly modern. Blue fruits and spice and lots of it. Bigger than the Marcoux for sure. Color was a huge contrast being more purple and the Marcoux’s bright red. Tannins weren’t too obtrusive. Decent acid. Not sure what to do with these wines. Drink now? Do they need more age to become their best? The 15.5% scares me a bit. Right now, this comes across too young.

Nov 3rd, 2019Oh yes...pure fruit for days. Just a touch of the jam, pepper, spices. Super young. Long finish. A gem.

1 person found it helpfulMay 30th, 2015Popped and poured; consumed over 3 days. Dark violet with a dark garnet rim. Initially a touch hot but there was so much fruit and spice it was easy to overlook that shortcoming. On the palate, truck loads of dark fruit and spice. Rich texture. Firm tannins. Decent acidity. Drank three quarters of the bottle and placed the cork back in the neck and left the remaining glass for Day 3. At that point, it was firing on all cylinders. The heat was gone from the nose and the fruit and spice layers were more delineated. I would love to have a few of these in the cellar and track their evolution. Drink now with patience or Hold.

May 30th, 2017Still hanging in there, but just barely. Hot and ripe, but still enjoyable in a hedonistic sort of way.

Jun 26th, 2015Beautiful deep Rhone blend distinctive of Paso fruit. Chewy tannin, velvety mouthfeel, gamey meat nose, white pepper, lovely minerality. Drinking fantastic now.
