A decade of age has made this Barbera blend a deep, soulful expression which I had not yet experienced in such a blend. Game, ripe ripe cherries sing once a decent decant tames the initial shrillness & one note balsamic dimension. Special, for old school fans.

I asked for a cozy, wintry, fireplace kind of wine with earthy, smoky, peppery, and meaty notes, and that’s what I got! Dark cherry, black plum, finocchiona salami, black pepper, cumin, leather, tobacco smoke, fresh earth, wet clay, Chinese five spice, sanguine minerality. Vibrant acidity and well-integrated tannins; beautifully balanced. Somehow both rustic and polished. Enjoyed on the last night of the worst year in history.

The colour of old Pinot noir. But this is Barbera. Leather, meat, spices. Elegant body, despairing tannins, must breathe first, balanced with pronounced acidity. Very good!
