Vignamaggio
Riserva Gherardino Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend
Woody nose. Cherry flavor with length and wood. Light tannic finish. A more serious Chianti, really

Dec 25th, 2021Second bottle of this I’ve opened. Paired nicely with Polpettone alla Fiorentina. Nose is relatively subdued, but gives up scents of dark cherry, juniper berry, warm gravel, and sandalwood. Nice balance in the mouth, with forceful flavors of macerated cherry and crushed stone-laden earth. Nicely savory on the finish. There are tannins aplenty, but they’re relatively soft, and there’s nice acidity for such a warm year, so this should sail through the next several years and maybe improve some more.

Oct 3rd, 2021See past notes. This time I am not as pleased. Quite stemmy on the nose and palate. Cherry dominant. Quite tannic. Sharp.

More notes next bottle. Red bricking at the edge. Sour red cherry. Nice aromatics. Good weight. Medium acidity. The super drying grainy tannins, at this time, renders it off balance. But this is an unbelievable value. More notes with more bottles to follow.

Delicious and complex. Not yet fully mature. Striking, youthful color. Nose has tons of gravel, iodine, chokecherry liqueur. Concentrated and medium-bodied in the mouth. Great acids. Youthfully assertive but reasonably soft tannins. Flavors on the savory side and linger. Can’t wait until the Brasato is done to pair this.

Apr 25th, 2021Had this about 6 months ago. Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa was born at the beautiful Villa Vignamaggio in 1479, at the time her father, Anton Maria Gherardini was Lord of this ancient Tuscan Estate. Deep Ruby with aromas of fresh dark/red berry fruits and slight smoky spicy notes. On the palate Black Cherry and Cranberry flavors, well balanced with acidity and fine soft tannins. The finish is long ending with earthy citrus character.

Classic red fruit notes and a touch of dried green herbs. Quite balanced on the palate with fine grained, smooth tannins.
I was hoping for a bit more intensity, but this was very well made abeit on the simple side.
