Venus La Universal
Dido la Universal Montsant Garnacha Blend
I discovered that the makers of this were intending to interpret femininity via their blend of syrah, garnacha, merlot & Cabernet. That they are also the children of two famed Priorat makers also makes sense: such an elegant, refined body of dark fruits, marked by both freshness & power. For 20$ this is just a remarkable bottle. I’ve tried earlier vintages, it’s no accident.

Jan 13th, 2022Bright, high-toned, suave tannin and brisk acid to carry all the juicy red fruit and flowers. Does not show its ABV at all and is quite alluring.

May 3rd, 2018More celebrating. My Wifey’s mum’s 70th (and brother-in-law accessory.) She’s still rocking it. Super life event with family.
The wine is for the masses. 50 peeps plus. Drinking well. Barnyard nose. Smooth and balanced on the palette. Needs more time, but presented well tonight.
5L format. -20F here in Montreal. As we say in England: this temp will freeze the balls off a brass monkey 🐒

Completely fell in love with this Wine while in Barcelona, call it vacation euphoria if you may, but the Wine kept opening up and evolving into something always more beautiful then before!

Nov 13th, 2017The last Monsant of Barcelona. Dried herbs, peppermint, black raspberries. Minerals. Yum.

5 people found it helpfulJan 3rd, 2013Vivid magenta. Smoke-tinged red berry and cherry pit aromas are complemented by suggestions of black cardamom and licorice. A hint of spicy cracked pepper sharpens raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that slowly turn sweeter with air. Focused and spicy on the penetrating finish, showing very good persistence and subtle, building tannins that provide gentle final grip. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, April 2019)
