Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese

Powerful, rustic, fruity, tannic and rich. Excellent showing but should have more elegance and complexity with 5 more years.

This was a pleasant surprise. When first opened, there was a distinct prune aroma and flavor, so I was concerned it was over the hill and/or cooked, give me the vintage. But after 3+ hours of decanting it was beautiful. The prunes and age were gone, and just left dark dried fruits, plenty of acidity and tannins were still present, and made it a joy to drink. Not even a hint of browning on the rim of the color.

This was fantastic, in great shape. Well balanced, great acidity and classic brunello characteristics.

This was awesome, classic aged brunello, great aged fruit and leather and still good acidity.

Great wine. I don't normally say powerhouse but next to the ArPePe that's how it seemed. Seemed a bit off at opening, possibly slightly corked, but after wearing off tasted much better. Still not what I remember, and I think it should have been better, but it was perfect with dry-aged steaks.
